ALGIN

Algin is a natural humectant extracted from brown algae. The brown algae (Phaeophyceae, Syn.: Phaeophyta) form a separate group within the stramenopiles (stramenopiles). They are mostly marine, often brown algae with generational change. A characteristic of these filamentous or leafy, in any case multicellular algae are the brown fucoxanthin dyes that cover the green chlorophyll. The active ingredient used in cosmetics is a gel-forming sugar molecule (polysaccharide) from the brown algae. It helps to regulate the loss of moisture from the upper layers of the skin and provides the skin with optimal, long-lasting moisture.

ALLATONINE

An active ingredient from the group of dermatics and keratolytics. It occurs in plant organisms (e.g. wallwort, maple, black salsify, beetroot, horse chestnut and in wheat germs) as an end product of the purine metabolism. Aloe vera, for example, is particularly rich in allantoin. Allantoin has a moisturising, antioxidant, smoothing and horny effect on the skin. In addition, it promotes the absorption of active ingredients but also drugs into the skin and is therefore often contained in creams containing drugs. The active ingredient is particularly suitable for the care of dry skin, for the treatment of burns and scars.

AMLA

The Amla berry has been used for centuries in Ayurveda for a wide variety of health purposes. It grows on the Amla tree, also known as the Indian gooseberry. Amla is very rich in antioxidant nutrients, including vitamin C and vitamins of the B complex, iron and calcium. It is widely used in India in external preparations for hair because it accelerates hair growth.

ALOE VERA

A desert plant from the lily family, also known as Aloe Barbadensis Miller. There are over 250 species of Aloe plants worldwide. The plant grows in a warm tropical climate and cannot tolerate frost. Aloe Vera has a long tradition as a medicinal plant that goes back to 2200 BC. In Aloe Vera Gel more than 200 active ingredients have been discovered, such as vitamins, minerals, amino acids, polysaccharides, enzymes and phytosterols. Besides the well-known moisturising and anti-inflammatory effects, the cell stimulating and wound healing effects are of great interest for cosmetics.

AMINO ACID

Amino acids are a class of organic compounds with at least one carboxy group and one amino group. Human proteins are composed of 20 amino acids, with a distinction being made between essential and non-essential amino acids. The essential amino acids must be supplied with food, while the non-essential amino acids can be formed in the body.

Amino acids are indispensable for structural development, because the collagen fibres in the skin consist mainly of the amino acids glycine, proline and lysine, while the elastic fibres consist mainly of valine and lysine. Furthermore, amino acids support the skin's own metabolism and stimulate the formation of protein and collagen in the connective tissue cells.

ARGAN STEM CELL EXTRACT

The extract is based on plant stem cells of the very resistant and rare argan tree. The argan tree comes from the dry southwest of Morocco. The tree is perfectly adapted to long lasting droughts and extremely high temperatures. The 100% plant-based active ingredient helps to maintain and activate the skin's own stem cells. Argan stem cell extract thus helps to promote skin regeneration and strengthen the skin structure.

ARGAN OIL

The argan tree (Argania spinosa) grows in southern Morocco, on the edge of the Sahara, mainly in the Sousse plain and in the north-eastern Essaouira region. The tree grows up to 200 years old and up to 10 metres high. It is also called the "tree of life" because it provides the Berber tribes on the edge of the Sahara with firewood, food, medicine and shade for agriculture and livestock. The argan forest, which covers about 800,00 hectares and consists of more than 20 million trees, serves as a natural barrier against the spread of the desert. Every two years, about 30kg of fruit are harvested from each argan tree, which are then processed by hand to produce about 1l of argan oil. The fruits contain up to three seeds from which the valuable oil can be extracted. Argan oil, known in recent research as a "miracle anti-aging remedy", with its high content of vitamins A and E, actively helps to stimulate cell activity, has an intensive moisturising effect and acts as a radical scavenger. The oil also has anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties.

(A⁴ SOS COMPLEX, A⁴ RED CARPET CONCENTRATE)

BAOBAB OIL

The baobab tree grows in the dry tree savannah of the African lowlands and is the best known and most characteristic tree in Africa. Its short, extremely thick trunk and a widely projecting crown have a signal effect. It grows up to 800 years old and blooms for the first time after 10 years. The single flower blooms only 24 hours, the flowers open in the afternoon and are pollinated by flying foxes at night. After pollination, the grey-brown capsules develop in 8 months, from whose seeds the oil is extracted. Eco-certified baobab oil has an antioxidant effect and contributes to the regeneration of the skin.

BETAINE (TRIMETHYLGLYCINE)

It is a natural component of sugar beet, spinach, broccoli, etc. Betaine is therefore edible. Eco-certified betaine from sugar beet provides the skin with lasting moisture and thus contributes to an even appearance. Eco-certified betaine significantly improves the skin's feel and has a positive influence on transepidermal water loss.
(A⁴ EYE DELIGHT, A⁴ FINGER FOOD HANDBALM, A⁴ SOS COMPLEX, A⁴ ROSE DUST)

BIOTIN

This vitamin also belongs to the vitamin B complex and is essential for skin, fingernails and hair. A deficiency of this vitamin, also known as vitamin B7, can lead to brittle nails and hair loss. Women smokers are particularly at risk of a deficiency.

BEE WAX

(Cera Alba L.) Beeswax is a waste product of the honeybees that use the wax to build up the honeycomb. The honey is separated from the combs by centrifugation and then melted in hot water to remove any impurities. The raw wax obtained in this way is lifted off the water after solidification and dried. Bleaching produces white (Cera Alba) to yellowish (Cera Flava) beeswax. Beeswax protects the skin from drying out.
(A⁴ KISS & HELP LIPBALM)

BROWN ALGA

(see also Algin) Algae are rich in minerals, trace elements, iodine, copper, zinc and selenium. The broad spectrum of vitamins includes vitamins A, C and E, niacin and folic acid, as well as the vitamin B complex, including vitamin B12, which is otherwise only found in animal products. These components are particularly important for the skin and connective tissue. In addition, algae are rich in highly saturated fatty acids, which are also important for the membrane stability of the skin. Polysaccharides, which are found in various types of algae, especially red and brown algae, are of particular importance for cosmetics.
(A⁴ FACE SERUM, A⁴ BODY CREAM, A⁴ FACE CREAM)

BLACK CURRANT SEED OIL

Is obtained from the seeds of the black currant (Ribes nigrum). The currant bush belongs to the gooseberry family (Grossulariaceae). Originally spread in European-Asian forest areas, cultivation today in Central Europe. Currant seed oil has a particularly high content of alpha-linolenic acid, gamma-linolenic acid, polyunsaturated linoleic acid and anti-inflammatory stearidonic acid. Linoleic acid helps to strengthen the skin barrier, linolenic and stearidonic acids have an anti-inflammatory effect.
(A⁴ SOS COMPLEX)

BLACK OAT

(Avena Strigosa) Contains saponins, avenacin and avenacoside, which are said to bind moisture in the skin and provide new vitality. Its high content of trace elements such as zinc and manganese as well as many essential fatty acids and vitamins of the B group make it particularly valuable for the skin functions. Due to the sustained optimisation of skin moisture, transepidermal water loss is reduced. The beta-glucan contained helps to increase skin smoothness and optimise the protective and repair functions. Especially effective for dry and sensitive skin.
(A⁴ FACE DELIGHT MOISTURIZER)

CARNOSOLIC ACID
(ROSEMARY EXTRACT)

About 90% of the antioxidant properties of rosemary are attributed to carnosolic acid. It fights free radicals - one of the main causes of skin ageing.

CERAMIDES

Ceramides are a subgroup of fats or lipids. They occur naturally in the horny layer of the skin and form a natural barrier that protects the skin from drying out. This skin barrier is the basic prerequisite for beautiful, healthy skin. If this balance is missing, as is the case with neurodermatitis or psoriasis, for example, inflammatory skin changes occur. In cosmetics, ceramides play an essential role and are used for dry skin and hair care.

COENZYME Q10

Acts as a free radical scavenger and thus helps to prevent premature skin ageing and wrinkle formation.
(A⁴ BODY CREAM, A⁴ FACE SERUM)

CUPUACU BUTTER

(Theobroma Grandiflorum L. - large-flowered cocoa) Originates from the Amazon region of the Brazilian rainforest. It is obtained from the seed of Cupuacu - a type of mallow. The high content of essential fatty acids makes cupucu butter so valuable for skin care. It strengthens the natural protective barrier of the skin and thus regulates evaporation.

CAFFEINE

Can either be extracted from the coffee bean or tea bush (Camellia sinensis) or produced synthetically. There are no differences in effect and compatibility. In cosmetics, caffeine drains the tissue and stimulates the skin metabolism in a beneficial way. Caffeine helps to activate an enzyme that helps to split and break down fat.
(A⁴ ENZYME PEELING POWDER)

COLLAGEN PEPTIDES

Collagen gives the skin its elasticity and support. With increasing age, the body's own collagen production is reduced. "Normal" collagen consists of large molecules that cannot be absorbed unchanged by the body via the intestinal mucosa. Collagen peptides, on the other hand, are particularly small and can therefore reach deeper skin layers via the bloodstream. There they help from within to build up collagen fibres and regenerate the supporting framework of the skin. According to studies, drinkable collagen peptides have been shown to improve the skin's elasticity and moisture content in the long term.

COPPER

The mineral copper contributes to the stimulation of collagen and elastin formation and plays an important role in the neutralisation of oxygen radicals, so copper is a good choice for ageing skin.

DEEP WELL WATER

From the "gold well" of the Prealps. Difficult to access gorges and rugged mountain slopes, natural forests and less than 2% settlement area characterise the "wild west" of Switzerland. Pure Swiss spring water from the UNESCO biosphere reserve "Entlebuch" flows over gold-bearing ground and is rich in calcium and magnesium. It helps to intensively moisturise the skin and relieve feelings of tension.
(A⁴ ROSE DUST, A⁴ EYE DELIGHT)

ECHIUM OIL

Is obtained from the seeds of Echium Plantagineum and Echium Vulgare. Essential fatty acids protect and strengthen the skin barrier.
(A⁴ RED CARPET CONCENTRATE)

ECTOIN

A cellulose booster produced naturally by micro-organisms that helps them survive in environments with heat, strong UV radiation or high salt concentrations. It not only supports the skin repair process to reduce UV damage, but also helps prevent premature photo-aging and protects the skin from dryness by forming hydration shells.
(A⁴ FACE CREAM)

ENZYMES

An enzyme (synonym: ferment) helps to break down or otherwise change an initial product (substrate). The enzyme facilitates the necessary reaction by lowering the activation energy, which always has to be overcome for a chemical reaction to occur at all. The enzyme takes part in the biochemical reaction, even forming a temporary bond with the substances to be converted. In contrast to the substrate, however, the enzyme is not changed by the reaction but only supports (technical term catalyses) the process. Chemically speaking, enzymes are proteins. Many enzymes are used cosmetically to eliminate superficial wrinkles by removing accumulations of dead cell material.
(A⁴ ENZYME PEELING POWDER)

FIG EXTRACT

The ancient advanced civilizations from Greece to Mesopotamia and Rome appreciated figs - as a delicacy and as a natural medicine against inflammation, coughing and constipation. The fruits have an antibacterial, laxative, metabolism-stimulating and draining effect. Fresh figs contain 80% water as well as valuable ingredients such as vitamins (especially vitamin B1) and minerals (calcium, phosphorus, iron). Fig extract supports the stimulation of cell regeneration and the skin's ability to bind water and gives a feeling of freshness.
(A⁴ EYE DELIGHT)

FERULIC ACID (ETHYL FERULATE)

Is obtained from rice and is a natural antioxidant with UV-absorbing properties. Ferulic acid neutralises oxygen radicals and reduces the dose of penetrating UV radiation, i.e. it protects the cell from oxidative stress.

FRANKINCENSE

(Burseraceae) Incense plants are sparsely leafy and gnarled trees or shrubs that grow on stony, dry soils and whose bark peels off like paper. They belong to the balsam tree family and here to the genus Boswellia, which is divided into 25 species. The resin is obtained by scratching the trunk and branches of the tree from April onwards. After a few weeks, the resin that has flowed out can be harvested. Incense has an anti-inflammatory effect.
(A⁴ KISS & HELP LIPBALM)

GALL APPLE

The roundish gall apple is a plant gall that occurs on the underside of oak leaves in autumn. Among other things, the gall apple contains 55%-65% tannin and gallic acid. Oak tannins from the gall apple help to improve skin firmness through their astringent effect.
(A⁴ FACE CREAM, A⁴ TRIPLE SENSATION MASK, A⁴ FACE SERUM)

GLYCERINE

Because of its water-binding properties, glycerine is contained in cosmetic products as a moisturizer. There are many different sources of glycerine: It can be extracted from beef tallow or synthetically from crude oil. Its origin from palm oil is also problematic as rainforests are often cleared for the planting of oil palms. Natural cosmetics manufacturers, on the other hand, use glycerine that comes from plants from controlled organic cultivation. Only vegetable glycerine is used for A⁴ Cosmetics. Ingredients from petroleum or animal origin are taboo.
(A⁴ BODY CREAM)

GREEN TEA

Contains more tanning agents than black tea, therefore it tastes more bitter. These tanning agents have a stomach soothing effect. Since 2011, German Cancer Aid has been funding a long-term study in Halle and Ulm on the effects of tanning on bowel cancer. Green tea is not fermented. After wilting, brief heating or steaming prevents fermentation (fermentation). For this reason, all active ingredients remain in the leaf. The most important ingredients are the stimulating caffeine, polyphenols and amino acids. Polyphenols support cell protection as well as skin soothing. Caffeine has a draining and stimulating effect and helps to break down fat.
(A⁴ GOLDEN BODY OIL, A⁴ NIGHT WATCH)

HAMAMELIS

(Hamamelis L., witch hazel) A plant genus from the witch hazel family (Hamamelidaceae). Witch hazel is a bush-like growing deciduous tree, which can grow up to 5 metres high and originates from Canada or the eastern USA, but is now also cultivated in Europe. It shows its yellow flowers in autumn. It is versatile in its use: leaves, branches and the reddish coloured bark are used. Witch hazel has antipruritic, antibacterial, wound healing and antioxidant properties (its antioxidant properties are much more pronounced than those of vitamin E). The witch hazel tannins form a complex with the proteins of the skin, which reduces blood circulation in the fine capillary vessels and diminishes inflammatory skin reactions; these processes are supported by inhibition of inflammatory reactions in cell metabolism. Their proven ability to reduce UVB light-induced DNA damage to cells is particularly noteworthy.
(A⁴ FACIAL TONIC CLEANSER)

HYALURONIC ACID

The molecules are part of the intercellular matrix of the human dermis; it binds up to 6 times its own weight of moisture in the skin and forms a natural protective film on the skin against the penetration of bacteria. A distinction is made between short-chain and long-chain hyaluronic acid. Short-chain hyaluronic acid penetrates the upper layer of skin and influences the internal moisture balance. This results in a moisture-promoting long-term effect with continuous application. The long-chain hyaluronic acid offers an immediate upholstering effect on the skin. It helps to effectively store moisture in the upper skin layer. Its moisture-binding effect results from the fact that it gradually releases its hydrate coat and thus acts on the skin over a long period of time. Its optical skin tightening and smoothing effect, which results from the evaporation of water and the resulting slight tightening of the gel film on the skin, is very good and immediately visible.

HYDROLATE

Plant water, flower water, aromatic water, by-product of steam distillation of plants or their parts.

INCA-INCHI OIL

Is produced in organic farming according to old traditional methods in a fair trade project in Peru. The carrier plant is a herbaceous climbing plant that thrives in the rainforests of the Andes. It has small flowers that produce a pod that is divided into six lobes. Each lobe contains a seed which is then pressed. Inca Inchi oil has been known to the local population for thousands of years. It contains a high proportion of omega-3 fatty acids, helps to regulate the skin's own fat balance and thus improves the skin's elasticity. Inca Inchi Oil also helps to reduce skin irritation and makes the skin soft and supple.
(A⁴ GOLDEN BODY OIL)

KIGELIA EXTRACT

is obtained from the fruit of the African sausage tree (trumpet plant). The medium-sized tree has flowers that only open at night. The fruits grow up to 50cm long and weigh up to 7kg and hang vertically. Elephants, giraffes and baboons open the hard capsules. Kigelia extract helps to tighten the skin and improve its elasticity through flavonoids and phytosterols. The extract is traditionally used in Africa for skin tightening and breast enlargement.
(A⁴ GOLDEN BODY OIL, A⁴ GOLDEN FACE OIL)

LUPEOL

Is obtained from the seed shells of the lupine. The active ingredient helps to promote the body's own production of high-quality collagen, is said to have remodeling properties and thus help the skin to regain its firmness, strength and elasticity.
(A⁴ SOS COMPLEX)

LYCOPENE

The substance, also known as leucopene, belongs to the class of carotenoids. Tomatoes and rose hips, especially when cooked, are particularly rich in lycopene. This substance is an essential antioxidant and a radical scavenger, and is therefore a good protection against skin ageing. In addition, taking lycopene leads to a kind of natural UV protection from within.

LECITHIN

A valuable vegetable component of the soya bean. It helps to strengthen the lipid matrix and thus protect the skin from evaporation. It also helps to strengthen the skin barrier and has a refatting effect.
(A⁴ FACE DELIGHT MOISTURIZER)

MESSENGER PEPTIDES

(A⁴ FACE SERUM, A⁴ RED CARPET EYE CREAM)

MILLET

Belongs to the sweet grass family (Poaceae). The name millet comes from the Old Germanic and is derived from an Indo-Germanic word for "satiety, nutrition, nutritiousness". The panicle millet or true millet (Panicum miliaceum) was also cultivated as a foodstuff in Europe in the past. Valuable minerals and silicic acid from the millet extract provide the skin with a balanced diet and help to strengthen the skin's skeleton.

MACA PLANT

(Lepidium meyenii) Belongs to the genus of cress (Lepidium) in the cruciferous family (Brassicaceae). It is native to the Peruvian states of Moquegua and Puno. Maca has been cultivated in the upper altitudes of the Peruvian Andes for about 2000 years and is used as a food and medicinal plant. The root thrives under extreme conditions. The oligosaccharides and peptide extracts extracted from it help to restructure the skin, improve its elasticity and enhance its radiance. At the same time, Maca root helps to slow down the skin aging process and reduce wrinkles.
(A⁴ FACE CREAM)

MAHONY

(Mahonia aquifolium) Is an evergreen shrub from the genus Mahonia in the barberry family. In cosmetics, the extract from mahonia is said to have an antibacterial effect and to prevent the sebaceous glands from clogging.
(A⁴ FACE WASH MOUSSE, A⁴ FACIAL TONIC CLEANSER)

MICROALGAE EXTRACT (CHLORELLA VULGARIS)

Extract from the unicellular green microalga Chlorella vulgaris. The extract is able to increase firmness and skin tone by stimulating collagen and elastin synthesis. At the same time, the extract helps to reduce the size and colour of stretch marks and activate lymphatic drainage. This reduces the retention of water and prevents the so-called "heavy legs". Chlorella vulgaris also helps to reduce the dilation of smaller blood vessels - especially in spider veins and rosacea.

MYROTHAMNUS FLABELLIFOLIA

("resurrection plant") Myrothamnus is the only plant genus of the family Myrothamnaceae in the small order of Gunnerales. Its place of origin is South Africa. The extract of Myrothamnus flabellifoila protects the membrane structures and skin lipids against stress such as dehydration and oxidation due to its high content of polyphenols, galloyl-quinic acid and trehalose. The extract helps to revitalise the skin for more than 48 hours after a single application, rehydrates "damaged" skin, strengthens the skin barrier and visibly improves skin texture.
(A⁴ SOS COMPLEX)

NMF

(Natural Moisturising Factor) NMF is a natural moisturising factor. The horny layer of the skin needs a water content of 10 to 20% to remain supple. In order not to lose too much water even under unfavourable external conditions, the skin has water-binding substances that retain the water in the horny layer. These substances come from sweat and sebum or are produced during the cornification process. The sum of these water-binding substances is called NMF (Natural Moisturizing Factor). Moisturizing substances in cosmetics, also known as moisturizers, include the individual components of the NMF or combinations similar to the NMF in their composition.
(A⁴ BODY CREAM, A⁴ FACIAL TONIC CLEANSER, A⁴ FACE WASH MOUSSE, A⁴ ROSE DUST)

OAK TANNINS

They come from the gall apple and help to improve skin firmness through their astringent action.
(A⁴ FACE CREAM, A⁴ TRIPLE SENSATION MASK, A⁴ FACE SERUM)

PAPAYA

(Carica papaya) Is a plant species from the melon tree family (Caricaceae). This tropical useful plant is said to have originated in Mexico. The protein-splitting enzyme papain contained in papaya extract helps to increase the elasticity of the skin and thus to fight wrinkles by helping to loosen dead skin cells that would otherwise clog pores and cause acne. Papain smoothes the upper layer of skin and can therefore reduce fine lines and wrinkles. Papaya extract also has a very high vitamin C content. Vitamin C supports the production of collagen and activates the metabolic processes that form the basis for firm skin.
(A⁴ BODY CREAM, A⁴ FACE CREAM, A⁴ FACE SERUM)

PANTHENOL

(Dexpanthenol, D-Panthenol) Panthenol is an active ingredient that has been used for a long time in medicinal skin care. Panthenol is a provitamin, i.e. a precursor of the B vitamins, which is converted to pantothenic acid (vitamin B5) in the body. The active ingredient is particularly recommended for dry skin as it improves the skin's moisture retention capacity. It also increases elasticity and supports the regeneration of skin cells. Dexpanthenol also reduces itching, has an anti-inflammatory effect and promotes wound healing.
(A⁴ FACE WASH MOUSSE, A⁴ EYE DELIGHT, A⁴ FACE SERUM)

PERFLUORODECALIN

An oxygen carrier.

PERSIAN SILK TREE

(Albizia julibrissin) Also called silk acacia or sleeping tree because it folds its leaves at night or during drought, i.e. it "sleeps" - is a plant species from the genus Albizia, which belongs to the subfamily of the mimosa plants (Mimosoideae). The Persian Silk Tree extract helps to visibly reduce signs of fatigue such as dark circles under the eyes, puffiness, a dull complexion and tired facial features. It helps to protect and repair the skin from protein damage caused by glycation. It supports specific detoxification systems and thus helps to maintain mechanical cell functionality. In combination with Siegesbeckia Orientalis, the Persian Silk Tree helps to positively influence the lifting of the upper eyelid.
(A⁴ EYE DELIGHT, A⁴ NIGHT WATCH)

PEPTIDE

The term peptide is used to describe a molecule made up of amino acids linked together by peptide bonds. Peptides are systematically subdivided according to the number of amino acids of which they are composed: Depending on how many amino acids they are made up of, they are called oligopeptides (=multiple peptides) or tripeptides if three amino acids are involved. If more than 100 amino acids are linked, they are called proteins, peptides are "small proteins". In cosmetics tripeptides play an important role as anti-ageing substances. Tripeptides are able to stimulate collagen biosynthesis and stimulate cell renewal. There are also tripeptides with a botox-like effect which reduce the contractions of mimic muscles. They can therefore reduce typical mimic wrinkles, such as forehead wrinkles and crow's feet, and when used continuously, they can delay the deepening of these wrinkles.

PHOSPHATE (URIDINE MONOPHOSPHATE, UMP)

Uridine monophosphate (UMP) of plant origin promotes DNA synthesis or DNA repair in the cell. (Thymine is a component of DNA. UMP is a precursor of thymine. UV radiation damages the thymine component of DNA. As a thymine precursor, UMP covers the need for new thymines and thus supports DNA repair).

POLYSACCHARIDE (EXTRACTED FROM THE LARCH)

Smoothes the skin surface and reduces moisture loss.

RICE PROTEINE

Helps to nourish the skin and harmonise it with essential fatty acids, making it fit and supple.(Face Cream)

ROSE, DAMASK ROSE

(Rosa damascena) The group of Damascene roses is a cultivated form with a heavy, bewitching scent from Asia Minor, which has been cultivated since ancient times. With the crusaders of the 13th century, the Damascene roses arrived in European gardens via France. They are counted among the old roses. The Damascene Rose was voted "Medicinal Plant of the Year" in 2013. The Damascene rose blossoms from controlled organic cultivation in the Bulgarian "Valley of Roses" (Manolovo) are gently extracted. Mild winters and warm and humid summer months offer perfect conditions for rose cultivation. When the rose blossoms have reached their full oil content in the early morning hours, they are picked and processed in a gentle distillation process. This produces the natural, genuine and aromatic rose water, which refreshes, soothes and balances the skin.
(A⁴ ROSE DUST, A⁴ EYE DELIGHT)

RIBWORT

(Plantago lanceolata) Also known as spearwort, lungwort or snake's tongue, is a plant species belonging to the plantain family (Plantaginaceae). The word plantain comes from the Old High German word wega = way and rih = king. The ribwort plantain grows inconspicuously along waysides and in meadows in the cool temperate zones of Europe. It contributes to antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and wound-healing properties. Its tanning agents can have an astringent effect and thus prevent the sebaceous glands from becoming clogged.
(A⁴ FACE WASH MOUSSE, A⁴ FACIAL TONIC CLEANSER)

SEA FENNEL

(Crithmum maritimum) Also known as bacillus, this is a coastal plant that grows on rocky coasts in the influence of the spray. Its use has been known since ancient times. Sea fennel is also called "vitamin A from the sea". The oily extract helps to stimulate ceramide production and has a smoothing and skin protecting effect. It nourishes and revitalises the skin.
(A⁴ GOLDEN FACE OIL)

SEA MINERALS (FROM THE GREAT BARRIER REEF)

(A⁴ FACE WASH MOUSSE, A⁴ FACIAL TONIC CLEANSER)

SHEABUTTER

(Vitellaria paradoxa) The shea tree, also known as the shea nut tree, the shea butter tree or the African butter tree, is the only plant species of the genus Vitellaria in the sapot family (Sapotaceae). Shea butter is the fat from the seeds of the shea tree. Shea butter is produced from the shea nut in a complex production process (pressing of selected seeds, boiling with water, skimming off the fat layer and subsequent refining to ensure gentle handling of the product). Shea nuts ripen on the shea tree, which grows only in the so-called shea belt of Africa. This is an area of about 300 km north-south width, which extends from Senegal to Sudan. The result is a highly pure, very oxidation-resistant, slightly greyish to whitish quality. Shea butter is mainly used as a caring consistency agent in cosmetic products. Shea butter is rich in unsaturated fatty acids and vitamins with a relatively high percentage of unsaponifiable components. The unsaponifiable ingredients are considered to be of great dermatological and cosmetological importance due to their skin-friendly, caring and protective properties. This is especially true for the application on dry, sensitive, low-fat and low-water, often heavily scaly skin, as it is known e.g. from berFace serum-damaged skin or skin of the elderly, but also for neurodermatitis. Shea butter is characterised by good refatting, good water-binding capacity and a skin-smoothing effect.

SOY LECITHIN

Lecithins (from Greek λέκιθος lekithos "egg yolk") is the classic name for a group of chemical compounds called phosphatidylcholines. Valuable vegetable lecithin (phospholipids) from the soya bean stabilises the lipid matrix and has a refatting effect. Thus, it prevents normal and especially dry skin from drying out after washing. It regulates the pH value of the skin and supports the natural protective layer against aggressive environmental influences. Its high content of linoleic and linolenic acid has a positive effect on skin diseases.
(A⁴ FACE DELIGHT MOISTURIZER)

SPIRULINA

(micro-blue algae extract) The spiral-shaped bacteria Spirulina is one of the most protein-rich organisms. Spirulina is also derived from cyanobacteria, also known as blue-green algae. These are among the oldest organisms in the world and existed even before plants and animals developed apart. The high chlorophyll content enables the ingredient to photosynthesise and thus to produce organic matter and oxygen. Spirulina contains many vitamins, minerals and antioxidants which have a positive effect on the skin's appearance. The extract has moisturising and anti-inflammatory properties.

SURFACTANTS, AMINIC ACID-BASED

Amino acid-based surfactants (from Latin "tensus" = stretched) are substances which are suitable for daily use in cosmetic formulations and have a particularly mild and skin-friendly effect. Glutamates are known as the mildest surfactants on the market and are fully biodegradable. Sarcosinates are also mild to skin and eyes and are biodegradable. Amino acid-based surfactants help to protect the skin against moisture loss and have a fine and creamy foam.

TETRAPEPTIDES

Helps to positively influence lachrymal sacs and dark circles under the eyes and is said to have a decongesting effect.

TRIPEPTIDES

An active ingredient that stimulates the synthesis of six essential building blocks of the skin matrix (collagen I, III, IV, fibronectin, hyaluronic acid and laminin-5) It thus helps to smooth the skin's relief and fill wrinkles from within.

VITAMINE A

Stimulates tired skin cells to divide regularly again, supports wound healing and thus prevents premature skin ageing and wrinkling. This allows young cells to grow back, the top layer of skin (epidermis) becomes more resistant, the complexion looks more regular and smoother, dilated veins can be stopped and pigmentation spots lightened. Vitamin A helps unblock blocked pores and refine the skin's texture. Since the vitamin A effect takes place in deeper skin layers, the effect is not apparent until four weeks at the earliest - that is how long it takes for the new cells to migrate to the surface of the skin.

VITAMIN B2

(Riboflavin) Vitamin B2, a representative of the vitamin B complex, plays a role in numerous metabolic processes. It ensures beautiful skin thanks to its anti-inflammatory effect. People who drink too much alcohol and strict vegans are at risk of a deficiency.

VITAMIN B3

(Niacin) This water-soluble vitamin is important for nerve function. On the skin, it strengthens the skin barrier, reduces the probability of pigmentation, regulates sebum production and has an anti-inflammatory effect. This is why it is so valuable for beauty.

VITAMIN C

Vitamin C is one of the strongest free radical scavengers and antioxidants. It eliminates aggressive free radicals, which play a major role in skin ageing. In addition, the organism needs vitamin C for numerous metabolic processes - for example, to rebuild collagen fibres and form certain messenger substances and hormones. The water-soluble vitamin C is a fountain of youth for the skin.

VITAMIN E

Vitamin E stands for a group of similar fat-soluble vitamins called tocopherols. They have a strong antioxidant effect. Vitamin E is a cell protection vitamin and protects especially fats in the membranes. Because of its skin-caring and moisture-preserving effect, it is also very popular externally in skin and sun protection creams. It also has an anti-inflammatory effect and improves wound healing.

WHITE TEA

is the most precious tea variety in the world, used to be considered an immortality potion, is called white because the delicate hairs on the underside of the leaves appear silvery white. It takes 30,000 hand-picked buds to produce 1kg. White tea helps to have strong antioxidant properties against a wide range of free radicals and helps to reduce the signs of skin ageing and delay collagen and elastin breakdown.

WHEAT CERAMIDES

Ceramides are a subgroup of sphingolipids belonging to the lipids. Ceramides occur together with other skin components in the human body, among other things in the horny layer (stratum corneum). Due to their structure, they form double lipid layers there and thus form a natural barrier that protects the skin from drying out and prevents foreign substances from penetrating. If the balance of these substances is disturbed, dry skin or pathological skin symptoms such as dermatoses, atopic dermatitis (neurodermatitis) and psoriasis occur. A carrier system based on skin-identical ceramides (from wheat) helps to form an oxygen depot immediately and as a long-term depot in the skin. This active ingredient complex helps to accelerate cell renewal, significantly increase skin moisture and minimize wrinkles.

YEAST

A polysaccharide extracted from yeast helps to accelerate wound healing, reduce skin irritation and improve the skin's own protective functions.

ZINC

The trace element zinc plays an important role in defence processes. But it is also essential for the health of the skin, because together with vitamin C it stimulates the rebuilding of collagen around the clock. Therefore, zinc deficiency can lead to chapped, limp skin. It is also essential for wound healing.
